Brexit day at last.

Today at 23.00 hours, we will officially leave the European Union, albeit with a transition period till the end of 2020. by which time hopefully all the so called trade deals will have been sorted out, and the UK can once again be a sovereign nation ruling itself.

I am a webmaster for several websites I designed for other folks, it does not take up much time with updates once a month etc., have been trying to cut down on my involvement the last few years and handed over the Lightning Association website to another enthusiast. Am just about to hand over another website this week, leaving me with just 3 websites to manage.Life is good

Have had this wart on my arm for months, no idea where it came from, but it is annoying. Went down town this morning to Boots the Chemist and bought their own brand of freeze wart remover. Read the instructions a few times and applied the stuff as instruction. Now have to wait 10 to 14 days and it should be gone, we will see.

After Burns night

Everyone had a great night, food was excellent as was the company, and of course a few wee drams to toast the Bard. Haggis neaps and tatties for tea tonight.

Burns Night 2020

Burns Night supper is being held at our house this year, all the haggis, neeps and tatties are being prepared as I type. Kilts will be worn this year and I have just retrieved mine from its storage in the wardrobe. Funnily enough it does not fit me any more, but had already bought extender straps as I knew this would be the case.

Spent an hour or so adjusting the kilt straps and luckily all is well, managed to get into it OK, unfortunately the belt is not large enough, so will have to find another at a later date, but I do have a belt that will do for tonight.

Hilight of the week

Friday evenings see the highlight of the week, a stroll down to the Woolpack Inn where a group of us enjoy a few beers whilst playing dominoes. A chance to meet with family members and pals. Light hearted banter and great fun too.

My Father

I have a few photos of my father and this postcard taken in WW2 which was sent to his mother, is one I have never seen. Thanks to his grandson David Winn for finding it. I have no idea where and when this pic was taken, my father is on the left. He wrote on the back "Your handsome son, sort of tough but I'll get by. Love Dave"

Education Certificates

Dug out the pile of education certificates gained over the years and found this particular one, I can honestly say that this was the hardest and most intense course I have ever done.

And the only one that gave me a permanent headache from start to finish.

2019 in a nutshell

A brief look at what I got up to in 2019. Still using Facebook too much and think it is now time to curtail my activity on that platform for 2020, so will deactivate my account shortly. I intend posting most of my day to day stuff on good old blogger and have added the blog link on my website and email footer.

Gardening took up a fair or should I say a lot of my time, and so far have managed to keep on top of the weeds and generally have a decent spread. It will soon be time to get some work done as the weather has been very mild this winter so far and the weeds are thriving. Spring bulbs are growing apace, and the daffs have buds already. Noticed a broken pane of glass in the greenhouse, so that will need replacing. One of the roof panes No2 on the diagram.

I still enjoy photo restoration work and have done quite a lot over the years, it keeps me busy. Website work takes up a lot of my time, I look after 5 websites as webmaster, but am looking to reduce the workload this year. None of my web work makes any income and purely voluntary.

Health wise I am doing OK, managed to stop smoking a long time back, but am still vaping but without any nicotine, must try and get off that too. I was diagnosed with lower leg vascular problems years back, this causes calf pain, but have managed to cope over the years.

Although I am an honorary member of the Lightning Preservation trust, last year saw a very much reduced attendance due to other circumstances, my best friend passed away and as we both used to go down to Bruntingthorpe together, I lost a bit of enthusiasm, but am sure I will manage to get down more, hopefully this year.

For a few years I have been trying to stop a small drip from an internal gutter corner. Tape, sealant, putty etc., but no luck. During the last week which was a dry one, I took the whole corner unit off, cleaned it up, and found the rubber sealing bands had become twisted and loose.

I have now put some waterproof sealant on the strips and refitted the corner unit. Now waiting for a spot of rain to see if this has worked. failing that. it looks like a new corner unit is required.

January 9th saw another milestone, my 75th birthday. Had a quiet day and relaxed. A welcome addition to my wood working tools as a present. Have yet to make anything with it, but have built a suitable table. Hope the weather warms up a bit and I can get out in the garage.

Happy New Year

Another year another decade begins, had a quiet night watching the TV and listening to all the fireworks at midnight. Unfortunately a Scottish New Year is not on the cards these days, maybe just as well. Decided to dismantle all the traces of Christmas in the house, and all decorations and the tree are safely up in the loft. Happy New Year 2020 to all.

Todays excitement

It was not raining today, so decided to have a walk, stretch the legs. Stopped in at the shops on the way and bought some milk, can't c...
